Hi, Could you please share the call for nomination below with your members? Thanks in advance! Dear Colleagues: This is a Call for Nominations for the Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis Award. The Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis (LALA) award is a triennial honor awarded to a person who has made significant lifetime contributions to location analysis research. The award is given every third year at the closing dinner of ISOLDE, the International Symposium on Locational Decisions <http://isoldeconference.org/>. LALA Nominations will be received until *May 31, 2023*. The nomination process consists of sending by email the following three items: (1) A nomination letter, including significant reasons why this individual should be considered for this award. (2) An up-to-date curriculum vitae of the nominee. (3) Information about citations and service to the profession for the nominee. Support for local and topic-specific meetings to promote location science

Dear Locators, this year we secured a budget from EURO for a new initiative to support and encourage local or topic-specific location meetings. If you wish to organize a scientific meeting or workshop around a specific topic such as competitive location, emergency facility location, stochastic location etc. or a meeting covering a broader range of location topics in your institution, you will be able to request support from EWGLA up to a maximum of €1,000. The meeting should be open to the entire location community, and it must be announced via the EWGLA mailing list and the web site of the organized meeting (upon approval of the support). The procedure for applications and decisions for support is planned as follows: The EWGLA board will announce a call twice a year. Applicants need to submit a brief letter of intention (about one page) to organize a meeting within the next 12 months (exceptionally within 15 months for the very first call). The applications will be evaluated within two weeks after the deadline and the amount of support will be communicated to the applicants. The letter of intention should provide the following details: 1. A brief description of the meeting, including sufficient information about the format (workshop, conference etc.), the organizers, and the target audience. 2. The topic and how it relates to Location Science. 3. A brief motivation on how this meeting will contribute to the advancement of Location Science or how the (local or international) location community will benefit from it. 4. A concrete explanation and reasoning for the kind of support that is asked for from EWGLA (travel expenses for invited external speakers, supporting student participation, etc.). 5. The budget requested from EWGLA and a plan of the estimated budget for the entire meeting. Note that all expenses will have to be justified with receipts and proofs of payment. 6. Mention of other potential supports from local/international societies, organizations (government, NGO), universities or industry. The deadline for the first call of this year is 30 April 2023. As this is the very first call of the initiative, if you are already planning to organize a meeting before 31 July 2024, you are encouraged to submit your application to the EWGLA Board before this deadline. Depending on the number of applications received by the deadline, it will be possible to provide partial or full support (up to a maximum of €1,000) after evaluation. We want to support these events as much as possible, so if you are planning to organize a meeting but cannot finalize all the details for the first deadline, please contact us with all the details you already know. It may not be possible to guarantee support to organizations if an application, even a partial one, is not submitted by 30 April 2023. The deadline of the second call for proposals will be around 30 September 2023. Grants for attending the ISOLDE / EWGLA meeting

Dear Locators, the next ISOLDE & EWGLA meeting will be held in Kaiserslautern & Baden-Baden, Germany, 25 – 30 June 2023 (https://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/opt/isolde2023/), and we hope to meet you all there! We are pleased to announce that EWGLA is again offering a number of grants to support young researchers and researchers from economically weak countries for attending the meeting. These grants will cover your expenses for registration & accommodation up to a maximum of €750. To apply, you have to be a member of EWGLA and you should send the following documents as a single pdf by e-mail to the EWGLA Board (ewgla-board(a)mail.euro-online.org): - An extended abstract of two full pages, - Your CV, and - A letter of recommendation from your supervisor, if you are a PhD student. Deadline for applications: 6 Mar 2023 Notification about grants: 24 Mar 2023 In return, you will be asked to prepare a 2-page report and, ideally, also a short video jointly with the other recipients of the grant, summarizing the conference. 1yr PostDoc position at U Edinburgh for electric public transport optimisation

Dear colleagues, applications are invited for a 12-month Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Operations Research and Optimisation at the School of Mathematics, The University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with Ember Core Ltd (https://www.ember.to). The future of public transport is fully electric and tech-enabled. Ember is a start-up building such a future in Scotland by offering electric bus service on a small number of routes across Scotland. They are now looking to use optimisation algorithms for their vehicle and driver assignment as they scale up their network. In collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, Ember has already developed an initial prototype of an algorithm that assigns vehicles to routes. As a next step, we aim to expand the prototype to include driver allocations. The post-holder will conduct research on the combined bus and driver scheduling, critically leading the development of models and algorithms for the task (with the research team). This is a complex problem that needs to account for, among other things, battery charging and driving time regulations. The successful applicant will work closely with the company, especially with their Head of Engineering, spending part of their time at Ember's office in central Edinburgh. This position can start as soon as Apr 1, 2023 (or on a mutually agreed date). The project is funded by an EPSRC-UoE Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) with the industrial partner Ember.
