Dear EWGLA members, Some ten years ago I retired from university and stopped my old semi-regular column on this list of location related references. I think my last one was January 2013, for those who remember. However, I never really stopped collecting the many new references I got news of that seemed of possible interest to the location community. So I have a quite large backlog to share, and will try to do so at an acceptable pace of between 20 and 50 per month as long as I have some in stock. These will be a mix of new ones as well as older ones, rather working backwards in time till somewhere in 2013 (if I will be able to get there ... there are so many!). I collect them in BibTeX format (often including the many errors with which they are made available online by their publishers), but thanks to Bogi (Boglarka G. Toth) they are converted to a more readable format. The original BibTeX file is attached. Here is my first new entry, 28 references mostly from early 2022. CALL FOR NEW BOARD MEMBER

Dear locators, as you might recall, from 2018, the duration of service on the EWGLA coordination board is 4 years, changing one member at every EWGLA meeting such that the 3 members are from different countries. Thus, we are looking for a volunteer to replace Boglárka G.-Tóth. According to the rules, eligible candidates are members society of EURO who do not work in Italy and Belgium. If you are interested, please send us a one-page document where you state and promote your candidacy until Monday, 19 June. Doc-Course on Data Science in Granada and Seville from September 17 to November 14, 2023

The "Doc-Course on Data Science" will be held in Granada and Seville (Spain) from September 17 to November 14, 2023, and is jointly organized by the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Granada (IMAG) and the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Seville (IMUS). This activity is aimed at PhD/Master students and consists of a training period (a 4-week course), visits by researchers and professors to the IMAG/IMUS facilities throughout the period, a supervised research period for participating students (4 weeks) and an international closing workshop in which researchers, lecturers, supervised students and tutors participate. Doc-Course on Data Science is addressed to students enrolled in a Master or a Doctoral program related to Statistics, Operations Research or Data Science. Students with special interest and background on these topics are encouraged to apply for a grant to attend this Doc-Course. There will be a maximum of 20 PhD/master students that will be competitively selected among all applicants. A brief curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum) that includes a complete academic record is required. The 20 grants will cover accommodation and food allowance. Support for local and topic-specific meetings to promote location science

Dear Locators, this year we secured a budget from EURO for a new initiative to support and encourage local or topic-specific location meetings. If you wish to organize a scientific meeting or workshop around a specific topic such as competitive location, emergency facility location, stochastic location etc. or a meeting covering a broader range of location topics in your institution, you will be able to request support from EWGLA up to a maximum of €1,000. The meeting should be open to the entire location community, and it must be announced via the EWGLA mailing list and the web site of the organized meeting (upon approval of the support). The procedure for applications and decisions for support is planned as follows: The EWGLA board will announce a call twice a year. Applicants need to submit a brief letter of intention (about one page) to organize a meeting within the next 12 months (exceptionally within 15 months for the very first call). The applications will be evaluated within two weeks after the deadline and the amount of support will be communicated to the applicants. The letter of intention should provide the following details: 1. A brief description of the meeting, including sufficient information about the format (workshop, conference etc.), the organizers, and the target audience. 2. The topic and how it relates to Location Science. 3. A brief motivation on how this meeting will contribute to the advancement of Location Science or how the (local or international) location community will benefit from it. 4. A concrete explanation and reasoning for the kind of support that is asked for from EWGLA (travel expenses for invited external speakers, supporting student participation, etc.). 5. The budget requested from EWGLA and a plan of the estimated budget for the entire meeting. Note that all expenses will have to be justified with receipts and proofs of payment. 6. Mention of other potential supports from local/international societies, organizations (government, NGO), universities or industry. The deadline for the first call of this year is 30 April 2023. As this is the very first call of the initiative, if you are already planning to organize a meeting before 31 July 2024, you are encouraged to submit your application to the EWGLA Board before this deadline. Depending on the number of applications received by the deadline, it will be possible to provide partial or full support (up to a maximum of €1,000) after evaluation. We want to support these events as much as possible, so if you are planning to organize a meeting but cannot finalize all the details for the first deadline, please contact us with all the details you already know. It may not be possible to guarantee support to organizations if an application, even a partial one, is not submitted by 30 April 2023. The deadline of the second call for proposals will be around 30 September 2023. Dear Locators, the next ISOLDE & EWGLA meeting will be held in Kaiserslautern & Baden-Baden, Germany, 25 – 30 June 2023 (https://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/opt/isolde2023/) and we hope to meet you all there! We are pleased to announce that EWGLA is again offering a number of grants to support young researchers and researchers from economically weak countries for attending the meeting. These grants will cover your expenses for registration & accommodation up to a maximum of €750. 1yr PostDoc position at U Edinburgh for electric public transport optimisation

Dear colleagues, applications are invited for a 12-month Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Operations Research and Optimisation at the School of Mathematics, The University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with Ember Core Ltd (https://www.ember.to) The future of public transport is fully electric and tech-enabled. Ember is a start-up building such a future in Scotland by offering electric bus service on a small number of routes across Scotland. They are now looking to use optimisation algorithms for their vehicle and driver assignment as they scale up their network. In collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, Ember has already developed an initial prototype of an algorithm that assigns vehicles to routes. As a next step, we aim to expand the prototype to include driver allocations. The post-holder will conduct research on the combined bus and driver scheduling, critically leading the development of models and algorithms for the task (with the research team). This is a complex problem that needs to account for, among other things, battery charging and driving time regulations. The successful applicant will work closely with the company, especially with their Head of Engineering, spending part of their time at Ember's office in central Edinburgh.
