Dear Colleagues:
We invite nominations for the Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis Award (LALA). This prestigious, triennial award recognizes an individual who has made significant lifetime contributions to location analysis research over the course of their career. The LALA Award is presented every third year at the closing dinner of the International Symposium on Locational Decisions (ISOLDE). The next presentation will take place at ISOLDE XVII, to be held June 21-25, 2026, at Loyola University, Downtown Chicago, Illinois. Additional information about the ISOLDE XVII symposium is available at: https://isoldexvii-2026.org/
Nomination Deadline
LALA Nominations will be received until April 1, 2026.
Nomination Materials
Nominations (including self-nominations) should be submitted by email and must include the following three items:
1. A letter of nomination outlining the nominee's significant contributions and explaining why they should be considered for the award.
2. An up-to-date curriculum vitae of the nominee.
3. Information on citations and service to the profession provided by the nominee.
Selection Committee
* Dr. Karmel S. Shehadeh, SOLA President (Chair), University of Southern California
* Dr. Sibel Alumur Alev, University of Waterloo
* Dr. Rajan Batta, University at Buffalo
Submission Instructions
Please submit all nomination materials by April 1, 2026, to: kshehade(a)usc.edu<mailto:kshehade@usc.edu>. The email subject line should read: [LALA Nomination]
Questions regarding the nomination process may be directed to the same email address.
Sincerely,
The LALA Selection Committee

Dear locater,
Here is my last entry in 2025.
Once more find below (and attached in BibteX) 100 references, already 23 published in 2026 issues, the 9 remaining of my 2025 collection and a good 64-pack of 2019, with a few snippets from the period in between.
I restarted my bibliographic mails in the summer of 2023, after a ten-year silence on my front following my retirement from my university at the legal age of 65.
But in the meantime I continued consulting the new appearing literature and collected all observed titles that were of potential interest of EWGLA members.
This means that I had a large collection in stock that were not yet sent to this Ewgla list: all those from 2013 to 2023, and new ones appeared almost daily.
As these were not in a suitable shape to communicate, and conversion to adequate BibTeX is a somewhat time-consuming task, I decided to work in monthly entries consisting on the one hand of the most recent new references found and on the other hand of the earlier collected ones in batches, working backwards in time.
At first my monthly collections were of around 50 items, but this turned out to be too slow at bridging the full 10 year gap: I estimate the total number since 2013 at some 5000 titles, so this pace would have taken around 8 years to finish the backlog, much too long in my opinion and at my current age of 77!
This is the reason why I increased the size of my monthly collections to 100, to be fairly sure to be able to finish this task within my lifetime and not leave a glaring hole in the location bibliography.
Eventually someone else will have to take over for the future (I do not trust AI for that task).
I sincerely hope that this quite high monthly number remains readable and useful to you.
Let me wish you already a happy new year
Sincerely
Frank Plastria

NATCOR (http://www.natcor.ac.uk/) a National Taught Course Centre in Operational Research, delivers taught courses to PhD students, from across Europe, on a number of different topics in OR.
Attending Courses
EURO is advertising a competition for bursaries for courses run in 2026.
*BRAND NEW* Optimization Under Uncertainty. The University of Edinburgh 15 - 19 June 2026
Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). University of Portsmouth 9-7 September 2026
System Dynamics. Online, via Teams Commencing 6 July 2026

Convex Optimizaton. The University of Edinburgh 8 - 12 June 2026
The NATCOR course fees and on-site accommodation (if applicable) will be funded by EURO for successful candidates. Typically, accommodation for any residential courses will be four nights bed and breakfast. If additional or alternative accommodation is required, candidates will need to arrange and pay for this. Also any extra costs incurred will need to be settled personally. Please also be reminded that successful candidates requiring visas will need to apply for these in good time. Also please note the recent changes to travel requirements for European nationals visiting the United Kingdom. Eligible Europeans will need an ETA to travel from 2 April 2025. Further guidelines can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta
Eligibility
Applicants must be PhD students, from one of the EURO member countries or studying in one of the EURO member countries (see https://www.euro-online.org/web/pages/1457/current-member-societies) UK applicants may also be eligible for one of the NATCOR bursaries (see https://www.natcor.ac.uk/bursaries/) Applicants must have good English Language skills as all NATCOR courses will be in English. Preference will be given to students in their first or second years but all are welcome to apply. Preference will also be given to applicants who have not previously received support from EURO for NATCOR or other PhD schools.
Application
To apply for a bursary, candidates from a EURO member society country, or studying in a EURO member society country, should submit a zip file containing the application form (downloadable from the web page), their curriculum vitae (including their academic track record), and a letter of recommendation from their supervisor. Applicants should declare if they are receiving any additional support from their PhD funding body or other sponsor.

Dear EWGLA members,
We would like to update you with some news regarding this year’s meeting, grants, awards, the EURO2025 Locational Analysis stream as well as the EWGLA social accounts and the next EWGLA meeting.
1. The 30th EWGLA meeting took place at the Jerez de la Frontera campus of the Universidad de Cádiz from 17 to 19 September. Carmen-Ana Domínguez Bravo and Luisa I. Martínez Merino chaired the organisation. This year, the meeting was celebrated jointly with the 14th International Workshop on Locational Analysis and Related Problems (IWOLOCA).
The meeting hosted two EWGLA plenary talks by Prof. Burcu Balçık and Prof. Anthony Papavasiliou and an IWOLOCA plenary by Prof. Vladimir Marianov, as well as 69 scientific talks, with 84 participants from 14 countries in attendance.
We would like to thank the Organising and Scientific Committees, and all the participants, for being part of this special meeting! You can view the photo gallery at https://ewgla2025.uca.es/gallery/ to experience the warm atmosphere of the meeting for yourself or to relive it.
2. This year, the EWGLA board decided to support eight members for participation in EWGLA 30th. Unfortunately, only six of them could attend the conference and will receive the grants upon providing the reports required as part of the procedure. We congratulate all the grantees and provide the list of those attending the EWGLA meeting below.
You can also watch the video memories they prepared at this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nKHU5aTAZ-1HoQZVE_937Z8tx4bye4rn/view?usp=…

3. The next EWGLA meeting will be organised in Istanbul on 16-18 June 2027 by Necati Aras, Sibel Salman and Yavuz Günalay. Find more details in the attached presentation by the organisers.
4. The EWGLA board organised the Locational Analysis stream at the 34th EURO Conference, which took place in Leeds from 22 to 25 June. This successful stream hosted 15 talks, organised into four sessions that addressed recent advances and important challenges in locational analysis. These sessions were well attended, with more than 25 participants in each, and hosted very engaging discussions. We would like to thank all participants for their contributions!
5. Several EWGLA members received awards and honours during the EURO conference, as listed below. Congratulations to our EWGLA members on their achievements.
* Laureano Escudero was awarded the EURO Gold Medal, the highest distinction for OR.
* Dolores Romero Morales was elected President-Elect and will become the new EURO president for 2027 - 2028.
* EURO honoured its past presidents, including EWGLA members Laureano Escudero, Martine Labbe and Anita Schöbel, who were present on the stage in Leeds.
* Ivana Ljubic’s research paper won the EURO Award for the Best EJOR Paper in the Review category.
