[Apologies for receiving multiple copies of this message] 2nd CALL FOR PAPERS DRCN 2014 2014 / 10th International Conference on Design of Reliable Communication Networks April 1-3 (Tutorials: March 31), 2014, Gent, Belgium www.drcn2014.org DRCN is a well-established annual forum for scientists, engineers, designers and planners from industry, government and academia who have interests in the reliability and availability of communication networks and services. The conference covers topics from equipment and technology for survivability to network management & public policy, through theory and techniques for survivable and robust networks and application design. The aim of the conference is to bring together people from industry, government and academia in those disciplines in a lively forum. A special issue in a top journal related to conference topics is being negotiated by the organizing committee. Conference content will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases. The conference is supported by IFIP and IEEE sponsorship is requested. The 10th DRCN edition will be held in the glorious city of Ghent, Belgium. The conference will be enriched by a set of tutorials and invited talks. We seek papers that address theoretical, experimental, systems-related and regulatory issues in the area of dependability and survivability of communication networks, end-systems and infrastructure. For a project on communication network optimization in Chemnitz, Germany, we have one open (PhD candidate or Post-Doc) full-time position. Employment will be at the Chair for Communication Networks at TU Chemnitz. The position will become available for a period of one year starting from 1st October 2013 at the earliest. Further continuation is possible. Research Field: The research project VINO (VIrtual Network Optimization) addresses two problem statements related to communication network planning and optimization: - Optimum configuration and dynamic adaptation of Flexgrid optical transport networks (Flexgrid Optical Network Design (FOND) problem) - Embedding and dynamic adaptation of virtual networks within a physical network infrastructure (Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) problem) Responsibilities: The following research tasks should be performed by the candidate in the project: - Design and evaluation of online algorithms to handle incoming resource requests (i.e. optical connections in case of FOND and virtual network requests in case of VNE) in real time (online optimization problem) - Re-optimization of the network configuration while the network is in service Requirements: - MSc or equivalent degree in Mathematics or Information Technology / Computer Science - Background in at least one of the following areas: - discrete optimization (especially mixed-integer linear programming) - online optimization - communication network architectures and protocols - Experience with solvers for linear optimization problems (e.g. CPLEX) - Programming skills (e.g. C/C++) - Good English language skills Applicants should submit their documents (including a letter of interest, CV, copies of academic certificates and previous scientific work such as master or diploma thesis) preferentially via Email to: Technische Universität Chemnitz Chair for Communication Networks Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dear friends, The XIII Edition of the International Symposium On Locational DEcision (ISOLDE) will be held on June 16th-20th, 2014, in Naples and Capri (Italy), in conjunction with the XXI Meeting of EURO Working Group on Locational Analysis (EWGLA). ISOLDE is a triennial Symposium which gathers researchers and practitioners from all over the world aiming at integrating different approaches to deal with locational decisions. Experts from operational research, mathematics, management science, geography, economics and engineering (among others) will present their more recent advances in modelling, theory and applications. Contributions dealing with Logistics, Manufacturing, Transportation and Telecommunication industries are welcome. As usual, the Conference will be organized into a single plenary stream and in two different sites: after the first two days in Naples, participants will be transferred to the Island of Capri. For the participation, the submission of a short abstract is required. Special issues of international journals will be devoted to selected papers presented at the conference. Call for Papers Computers & Operations Research Special Issue on "Recent Advances in Location Analysis" Guest Editors: Sibel A. Alumur, Bahar Y. Kara The subjects of interest within location analysis are of many kinds, centering on the optimal choice of locations for one or more facilities, within any framework (the classical settings being discrete, network, and planar) in a way that optimizes a certain objective such as minimizing transportation costs, providing equitable service to customers, capturing the largest market share, etc. Many other fields have direct connections with location analysis, either by subject such as transportation and routing, supply chain management, environmental studies, layout and design, data and cluster analysis, or as techniques, like mathematical (linear, integer, non-linear, convex, global, ...) programming, multi-criteria analysis, approximation theory, computational geometry, statistics, etc. Recently, there have been several new developments in location analysis. The aim of this special issue is to collect high quality papers that address recent advances in theory, practice and application. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: * network location, * continuous location, * discrete location, * obnoxious location, * competitive location, * hub location, * location-routing, * location applications (logistics, network design), * exact and heuristic solution methods. Researchers from all relevant disciplines are invited to consider this special issue as an outlet to publish their high quality work on the topic. Call for Papers: OR55 -The OR Society Annual Conference *3-5 September 2013, University of Exeter, Exeter, UK* The planning for OR55 is well underway and the Conference Committee is in place to make sure things run smoothly. We now need to encourage a supply of interesting, informative and challenging papers. Academics, practitioners, researchers and students with interests in any aspect of Operational Research are invited to present their work at OR55. Details of all streams are available on our website at www.theorsociety.com/OR55 and more streams are expected to be finalised soon. Authors are welcome to discuss proposals for papers with stream organisers in advance of submission. *Keynote Papers:* Each stream is encouraged to have a Keynote paper if at all possible. Such a paper is expected to present a state of the art review of an area and discuss future directions for research in the field. Keynote papers will be highlighted in the Conference Programme and will be allocated additional time in the Schedule. They can also be published in the Keynote Papers Handbook and referenced with an ISBN number, if the speaker produces a full written version (maximum six pages). Keynote Guidelines and a template for Keynote Papers is available on the website. *Extended Abstracts:* In addition, an Extended Abstract would be considered. Extended Abstracts are shorter than Keynote Papers (about 1000 words) and depending on demand could be published in either a handbook, CD or website.
