FIRST CALL FOR ABSTRACTS VeRoLog2016 The fifth meeting of the EURO Working Group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization - VeRoLog *Nantes, France, June 6-8 * http://verolog2016.sciencesconf.org/ The fifth meeting of the EURO Working Group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization will take place at the Mines Nantes Graduate School of Engineering, in Nantes 6-8 June 2016. The VeRoLog conference is an annual meeting bringing together the large community of researchers and practitioners interested in vehicle routing optimization and its relationship with logistics. The conference is open to high quality methodological contributions, relevant real-world applications, and case studies from industry and the service sector. *Abstract submission * To participate, an abstract of 1/3 page (max. 250 words) must be submitted electronically via the link "Submissions". Best, Sergio. ******************************************************************************************************************************** Call for Papers 13th EUROPT Workshop on Advances in Continuous Optimization July 8-10, 2015: Edinburgh http://www.maths.ed.ac.uk/hall/EUROPT15/ EUROPT2015 is the annual event of the EUROPT continuous optimization working group of EURO (The Association of European Operational Research Societies). This is the 13th such workshop and is held in collaboration with the EURO 2015 conference to be held in Glasgow on July 12-15 2015. Talks should be related to continuous optimization theory, algorithms, software or applications. It is expected that there will be a particular focus on large-scale optimization and linear algebra techniques in optimization. March 13 - 17, 2016 www.land-translog.cl<http://www.land-translog.cl/> The Complex Engineering Systems Institute (ISCI) has the pleasure to announce the Workshop LAND - TRANSLOG III, a special joint workshop, which is a continuation of a series of previous successful events that were held in 2009 and 2011 in Chile, and invites you to submit an abstract. The goal of the first LAND workshop, held in March 2009, was to gather together researchers in the fields of Location and Network Design. In parallel, the TRANSLOG Workshop, organized in December 2009, focused on Transportation and Logistics. However, it included topics that overlapped with those in the LAND Workshop, and attracted people that would feel comfortable attending both workshops. In December 2011 we took one more step in promoting interaction and exchange of ideas among people coming from the two fields, and organized the joint event LAND-TRANSLOG II, which was very successful in exploring common interests and learning how researchers from other fields address the same or similar problems. In 2013, our group also organized the last TRISTAN Conference in the North of Chile. After that effort, and with the intention of keeping continuity in this interaction of very interesting and fruitful research topics, we decided to organize a new version of the LAND - TRANSLOG series, to be held in the Hotel Santa Cruz Plaza, in the beautiful town of Santa Cruz-Chile, in March 13 - 17 next year. Presentations are encouraged focusing on theory, modeling or applications of Location and Network Design, including but not limited to Health, Energy, Telecommunications, Retail, Natural Resources, Environment, etc.; presentations dealing with methodology, including exact methods, heuristics and simulation are also welcome. Recent advances in medicine allow us to live longer and healthier lives. These advances have been made possible through the joint contribution of very different scientific fields. Healthcare is nowadays better understood as a multidisciplinary field, with increasing number of challenges that can be better tackled by joint collaboration of researchers with different scientific backgrounds. Operational Research can significantly contribute to tackle many of the current and forthcoming challenges. Contributions solicited cover a variety of topics, including but not limited to: ·Location and allocation problems in healthcare ·Healthcare logistics ·Planning and scheduling healthcare delivery ·Optimization in radiotherapy ·Healthcare information systems ·Medical data mining ·Health economics - costing and pricing of health services ·Disease modelling ·Risk assessment and prioritisation Although we strongly encourage the submission of papers presented at XXXI Euro Mini Conference on Improving Healthcare that took place in Coimbra, Portugal, from March 30 to April 1 2015, this Call for Papers is also open to the entire community of academics and practitioners. Dear College, we are happy to announce that 55 talks are accepted for the EURO Working Group on Locational Analysis Meeting <http://www.math.bme.hu/ewgla2015/> being held in Budapest, Hungary, May 20-22, 2015. We are working on the final program, although a program overview is already available on the homepage. The plenary speakers are Leo Liberti <http://www.lix.polytechnique.fr/~liberti/> who will talk about Euclidean Distance Geometry, and Santo Fortunato <http://becs.aalto.fi/en/personnel/staff/fortunato_santo.html> with a talk on Graph Clustering. The social program will contain a boat trip on the Danube with some wine and cheese and the gala dinner with music, dance, wine tasting, etc. We would also remind you that early registration is until 20th March (in some emails incorrectly 8th March appeared). Final Call for Papers Special Issue of Socio-Economic Planning Sciences Location Analysis for Public Sector Decision-Making in Uncertain Times Guest Editors: Giuseppe Bruno, University of Naples “Federico II”,Italy Andrea Genovese, University of Sheffield, UK ******Extended Submission Deadline: January 31, 2015****** Socio-Economic Planning Sciences will publish a special issue on recent development in Location Analysis for Public Sector Decision-Making. The goal is to compile state-of-the art research, spanning modeling, theory, empirical studies, application and case studies in this research area. We seek operations research oriented contributions that are rigorously executed, clearly and succinctly written, and innovative relative to what is currently known. In light of the scope of SEPS, all papers must clearly demonstrate the relevance of their contributions with respect to the public sector. A facility location problem is aimed at finding the best position for a set of facilities within a given region in order to optimize a specific objective function. In the last decades, there have been many applications concerning the location of public-sector facilities (i.e. schools or post offices, emergency services, fire stations, hospitals, ambulances). These models represent a viable decision support tool for institutions that are planning to expand their capacity in a given region and/or market. This very well established research strand, however, has to take into account the changing and uncertain nature of our times. Indeed, in recent years, due to the global recession and the general interest to reduce costs and improve efficiency, public sector bodies have been more interested in the rationalization of the current position of active facilities (either closing down some of them or re-organizing the overall service supply system). In this context, decisions may depend on various factors such as the nature of the service and the characteristics of the demand. Considering this context, the special issue will be welcoming papers related to applications and theory of Location Analysis, with a special emphasis on contributions addressing contemporary challenges. All manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) http://ees.elsevier.com/seps. You must select Location Analysis as the Article Type to make sure that your paper will be considered for the special issue. The submission deadline is January 31, 2015. The plan is to publish the special issue in early 2016. Researchers from all relevant disciplines are invited to consider this special issue as an outlet to publish their quality work on this topic of increasing significance. Dear SOLA and EWGLA Members, It is my pleasure to (re-)announce the winners of the awards presented at the SOLA business meeting at INFORMS San Francisco last week: *Gemma Berenguer* won first place in the the SOLA-Air Products Dissertation Award for her dissertation "A New Approach in Supply Chain Design: Studies in Reverse Logistics and Nonprofit Settings," completed under the supervision of Max Shen at UC-Berkeley. Honorable Mentions went to the authors of two additional outstanding dissertations: *Gina Galindo*, for her dissertation "Prepositioning Supplies in Preparation for a Foreseen Hurricane," supervised by Rajan Batta at SUNY-Buffalo, and *Hans-Peter Ziegler*, for his dissertation "Algorithms for Linear Stochastic Programs and their Application in Supply Chain Network Design Problems" at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, supervised by Stefan Nickel (Karlsruhe) and Francisco Saldanha da Gama (U Lisbon). We presented the Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis (LALA) award to two professors who have made enormous contributions to location analysis over their careers, *Mark Daskin* and *Gilbert Laporte*. Mark is chair of the IOE department at Michigan and is author of a number of seminal location theory papers as well as the 1995 textbook /Network and Discrete Location/ (revised in 2013) and has served on a number of editorial boards and as INFORMS President. Gilbert is Professor at HEC Montréal and is author/co-author/editor of over 450 journal articles and 17 books, focusing on location, transportation, and their intersection. As is our tradition, the LALA awards were announced at ISOLDE XIII in Naples/Capri and were officially awarded at the SOLA business meeting. Please join me in congratulating all of the winners! [Apologies for multiple postings] SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS -- XVI EGC XVI Spanish Meeting on Computational Geometry (Encuentros de Geometría Computacional, EGC) July 1-3, 2015 Barcelona, Spain http://www-ma2.upc.es/egc15 The XVI Spanish Meeting on Computational Geometry will be held on July 1-3, 2015, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. The main focus of this international conference is on current topics in Discrete and Computational Geometry, including both theoretical and applied results. EGC started in 1990, making this edition, 25 years later, a special occasion. The intended audience for this conference includes graduate and undergraduate students, researchers in the area or from neighboring disciplines, and members of industry whose work involves geometric algorithms. Topics include, but are not limited to: * geometric algorithms and data structures; * discrete and combinatorial geometry; * theoretical foundations of computational geometry; * questions of interest in the implementation of geometric algorithms and geometric software development; * applications of computational geometry, and closely related areas, such as computer graphics, virtual reality, robotics, computer vision, simulation and visualization, solid modelling, computer aided design and manufacturing, pattern recognition, graph drawing and circuit layout, image processing, geographic information systems, multimedia and animation, wireless communications, computer algebra, computational topology, statistical analysis, operations research, computational biology, etc. The language of the conference is English, yet occasional submissions/ presentations in Spanish may be exceptionally considered. SPECIAL ISSUE Authors of selected contributions will be invited to submit a full version of their work to a special issue of the International Journal of Computational Geometry and Applications.
