Dear colleagues, The Complex Engineering Systems Institute (ISCI) invites you to submit an abstract for LAND-TRANSLOG IV, a unique workshop that has been held in Chile with great success since 2011, merging the previously separate workshops LAND and TRANSLOG. The workshop will take place from December 8 to December 12, 2019 at a new great location; the Dreams Valdivia hotel in the south of Chile. We anticipate a variety of contributions. Society on Location Analysis (SOLA) Inaugural Student Paper Competition

Regards, Ismail Society on Location Analysis (SOLA) Inaugural Student Paper Competition The INFORMS Society on Location Analysis (SOLA) announces the inaugural (2019) Student Paper Competition. The award is planned to be given biennially for student papers judged to be the best in the broad field of facility location. We encourage papers that promote the development of analytical methods, techniques and tools in the tradition of operations research/management science (OR/MS) as applied to the study of facility location. All finalists will be notified by September 1, 2019 and are expected to present their paper in a SOLA Best Student Paper Competition session during the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA. The SOLA Best Student Paper Competition winner will receive a plague during the SOLA Business Meeting at the annual conference. Eligibility Criteria - Applicant must have been a student anytime between Jan. 1, 2017 - December 31, 2018. - The research was conducted during the time the applicant was a student. - The submitted paper must present original research conducted primarily by the student applicant. - The applicant does not need to be the first author, but the applicant's contribution to the paper needs to be more than 50% - The applicant or applicant's primary research advisor must be a member of the SOLA on the date of submission - The paper must not be a part of a dissertation that won the first-place award in the SOLA Dissertation Award Competition. Submission Requirements: - A summary file containing the applicant's and applicant's primary research advisor's contact information, abstract, appropriate keywords for the submitted paper. - A letter from the primary research advisor discussing the applicant's contribution to the paper and whether the applicant meets the eligibility criteria - The paper in anonymous form with a length of at most 35 pages including the appendix, tables, figures, and references, and compliant with submission formatting standards similar to that of the leading INFORMS journals. The file name should be the short title of the paper. The above three documents (in pdf format) should be sent to SOLApapercompetition(a)gmail.com. Complete applications should be received on or before June 15, 2019. Call for Nominations for the Chuck ReVelle Rising Star Award in Location Science The Section on Location Analysis<https://connect.informs.org/sola/home> (SOLA) of INFORMS solicits nominations for the Chuck ReVelle Rising Star Award<https://connect.informs.org/sola/solaawards/new-item2>. This award is a biennial honor awarded to a person within eight years of receiving his or her Ph.D. who has made a significant contribution to location analysis research and displays the potential to continue to do so. The award is generally given every other year at the SOLA business meeting at the national INFORMS conference. The committee will consider all contributions to the field of locational analysis when choosing a winner of the award. While research will carry the most significant weight (and will be assessed using multiple dimensions--number and significance of papers, book chapters, presentations, etc.), contributions to teaching and service will be taken into account as well. The committee will also strongly consider the nominee's potential to continue to do research that has a significant impact on the field of locational analysis. The award does not carry a monetary prize but is regarded as an extremely high honor within the locational analysis community. In addition, the winner will be given a complimentary registration to the INFORMS conference in the year following the award. The award is named in honor of location analysis pioneer Charles ReVelle, who passed away in 2005. A nomination consists of a recent CV of the nominee and a nominating letter from the nominator that highlights the nominee's most relevant and significant accomplishments and discusses his or her potential to do research that has a significant impact on the field of locational analysis. In addition to the nomination letter and CV, electronic copies of up to (but no more than) three research papers should be submitted by the nominator. These papers should be either published, in the refereeing process, or being prepared for submission to an appropriate journal.
