Best, Emilio Carrizosa ****************************************************** SPECIAL ISSUE ON VARIABLE NEIGHBORHOOD SEARCH ****************************************************** JOURNAL OF GLOBAL OPTIMIZATION www.springer.com/10898 2011 Impact Factor 1.196 ****************************************************** Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) is a metaheuristic which has shown to be very successful for solving hard combinatorial and global optimization problems. During the EURO Mini-Conference on VNS took place in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, October 4th-7th 2012, researchers all around the world presented their most recent findings on VNS, either from a methodological viewpoint or as applications to real world problems. Authors of papers presented at the EURO Mini-Conference on VNS are especially encouraged to submit their work to this special issue in the Journal of Global Optimization. However, the issue is open to all researchers who can contribute to a better knowledge of VNS. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: Theory and Methodology: * Theoretical or empirical analysis of VNS * New variants of deterministic and stochastic VNS * Continuous global VNS * Mat-heuristics and VNS * Formulation space VNS * Multi-objective VNS * Parallel VNS * VNS hybrids Applications: * Mixed integer programming * Graphs, communication networks * Clustering, data mining, location * Inventory, routing, supply chains * Packing and covering * Discovery sciences * Other real world problems Before submission authors should carefully read over the journals Author Guidelines. ISOLDE website

Dear Location Researchers, During the last ISOLDE meeting in Japan, Gilbert Laporte said it's a pity that there is so little information available regarding the past ISOLDE meetings. We discussed that it'd be nice if we can have a website for ISOLDE. I volunteered to design such a website. The website address is: http://isoldeconference.org. As we discussed with Gilbert, I have designed the page in a way that people will be able to post some memories from the past ISOLDE meetings. In order to support the website, I also established a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/ISOLDE-Conference/534366156575345. All of the past ISOLDE meetings are listed on the events page. It is easier to post pictures and comments for each of the meetings through these event pages. You should be able to access these pages without being a Facebook member. For those of you who are a member of Facebook, you can "like" this page to be informed about recent posts and pictures. Also, you can "join" the past meetings that you have attended and keep track of how many ISOLDE meetings that you have been to. I have put all the information that I have to the website in addition to some pictures that I could get. I'm especially in search of the group photos taken in all of the past meetings. It would be wonderful if the past meeting organizers can send group photos or any additional information to share through the website. Call for papers: Euro XXVI conference Rome Italy 1-4 July 2013 Hybridisation of Heuristics/Exact Methods for Combinatorial and Global Optimisation Call for invited Talks and organizing chairs Hi Guys, I am organizing a stream on 'Hybridisation of heuristic/exact for combinatorial and global optimisation'. If you are interested in organizing a session or just to submit a paper please email me. Each session needs to include 4 talks (in case you are oversubscribe or under subscribe I will try to balance it between the sessions if need be). The deadline is end of the month but we will see if extensions are possible. - Talks are encouraged to include both components namely heuristic (meta-heuristics) and exact though individual ones will not be excluding. - Areas of interest cover any combinatorial/global optimization problem that is either practically useful or academically interesting. EWGLA XX SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS - Submission deadline: 18 January 2013 Dear colleagues, This is the second announcement for the 20th EURO Working Group on Locational Analysis Meeting, EWGLA XX, to be held in Ankara, Turkey on April 17-19, 2013. The conference will take place in the conference center of the TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
