SPECIAL ISSUE
ON VARIABLE NEIGHBORHOOD SEARCH
******************************************************
JOURNAL OF
GLOBAL OPTIMIZATION
www.springer.com/10898
2011 Impact Factor 1.196
******************************************************
Variable
Neighborhood Search (VNS) is a metaheuristic which has shown to
be
very successful for solving hard combinatorial and global optimization
problems.
During the EURO Mini-Conference on VNS took place in
Herceg Novi,
Montenegro, October 4th-7th 2012, researchers all around
the world
presented their most recent findings on VNS, either from a
methodological
viewpoint or as applications to real world problems.
Authors of papers presented at the EURO Mini-Conference on VNS are
especially encouraged to submit their work to this special issue in
the Journal of Global Optimization. However, the issue is open to all
researchers who can contribute to a better
knowledge of VNS. Potential
topics include, but are not limited to:
Theory and Methodology:
*
Theoretical or empirical analysis of VNS
* New variants of
deterministic and stochastic VNS
* Continuous global VNS
*
Mat-heuristics and VNS
* Formulation space VNS
* Multi-objective VNS
* Parallel VNS
* VNS hybrids
Applications:
* Mixed integer
programming
* Graphs, communication networks
* Clustering, data
mining, location
* Inventory, routing, supply chains
* Packing and
covering
* Discovery sciences
* Other real world problems
Before
submission authors should carefully read over the journals Author
Guidelines. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of
their
complete manuscript through the journal's editorial manager
http://jogo.edmgr.com/ and specifying that their paper is for the
special
issue "SI: VNS 2012". Manuscript deadline: 31st December 2012.

of Artois (Bethune, North of France) is seeking to fill a postdoctoral
position in:
*“Service Network Design in Supply Chain Systems”*
for a 12 month contract to be filled as soon as possible.
Successful candidate will perform research on models of capacitated
multi-commodity flow, routing and location and develop mathematical models
and efficient solution methods for real-life industrial applications (exact
methods and heuristic approaches).

The research will be carried out in the group of “Systems Optimization” of
LGI2A led by Prof. Gilles Goncalves.
LGI2A (www.lgi2a.univ-artois.fr/) offers a strong scientific support, a
friendly environment and collaborative international environment. Several
international/EU industrial/research projects at LGI2A permit students and
researchers to be in the middle of research collaboration and help them to
extend their network to their counterparts at other universities, academic
institutes and industries to develop their future career. Several meetings
and plenary seminars will offer opportunity to students and researchers to
communicate and benefit from the others latest research results.
Bethune is a beautiful city located at the North of France (40 minutes
North of Lille) in a very calm and quiet North-Western European region. It
will take 1 hour going to Brussels, 2 hour from London and 70 minutes to
Paris by TGV trains.
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or about to defend within a month) or
equivalent in computer science, mathematics or a related area and should
have a solid knowledge of mixed integer programming, excellent programming
skills, experience in decomposition methods (primal and dual),
metaheuristics, and algorithms. Other skills such as knowledge in
probability theory and stochastic programming are beneficial.
Good communication skills and solid English writing skills are mandatory.
Knowledge of French is not required, but successful candidates will be
encouraged to learn some basics.

EWGLA XX CALL FOR PAPERS - Submission deadline: 18 January 2013
Dear colleagues,
This is the first announcement for the 20th EURO Working Group on Locational
Analysis Meeting, EWGLA XX, to be held in Ankara, Turkey on April 17-19,
2013. The conference will take place in the conference center of the TOBB
University of Economics and Technology.
More information regarding the conference can be found in the conference web
site: <http://www.ewgla2013.org> www.ewgla2013.org
We apologize for cross-posting.
Aims and Scope
The meeting intends to gather the operations research community from
different parts of the world to share experiences in the field of locational
analysis
We invite participation from all areas related to location theory including:
* network location,
* continuous location,
* discrete location,
* obnoxious location,
* competitive location,
* hub location,
* location-routing,
* advanced location models,
* location applications (logistics, network design),
* exact and heuristic solution methods.
Contributions are welcome from academia, industry or the public sector. In
addition to presentations, the meeting is intended to be a forum for
exchange of recent experiences and results.
A special issue will be devoted to recent developments on location analysis
in the journal Computers & Operations Research published by Elsevier.
